Education for Every Child
Education for Every Child is YANG’s community-led effort to make sure children and young people from vulnerable Indigenous communities are not left behind. It’s about opening doors to education, information, and opportunities so they can build a better future.
In remote and marginalized areas, children face many barriers: poverty, lack of awareness among families, geographical isolation, missing documentation, and the pressure to contribute to household livelihoods. These challenges often push children out of school or prevent them from enrolling in the first place. Through this initiative, YANG works directly with communities to identify children who are disconnected from formal education and create pathways for them to return to learning.
Community outreach is at the heart of the work. YANG engages parents, children, youth, and local leaders in conversations about the importance of education, children’s rights, school enrollment, and the long-term benefits of staying in school. By listening to families and understanding their realities, the initiative addresses misconceptions and practical barriers that keep children away from classrooms.
Free learning and youth sessions are another key part of the program. These sessions give children and young people — especially those with limited access to schools — a chance to learn, build confidence, and develop communication skills. They also encourage youth to become advocates for education in their own communities, supporting peers who face barriers to schooling.
A major focus is reaching out-of-school children (OOSC). YANG works with families to understand why children are not enrolled and helps connect them with available schools and opportunities. The goal is not just to increase enrollment numbers but to ensure children can enter, remain in, and progress through education.
Special emphasis is placed on Indigenous and underserved communities, where geographical and socioeconomic barriers are strongest. Local youth are engaged as volunteers and mobilizers, helping to build a culture of education from within.
The approach combines awareness, identification of out-of-school children, support for enrollment, free sessions, youth engagement, family involvement, and follow-up with vulnerable households. Together, these efforts promote inclusive and equitable education.
Education is more than access to a classroom — it is a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and resilience. Through Education for Every Child, YANG is working to ensure that a child’s location, economic circumstances, or social vulnerability does not decide whether they get to learn. By reaching communities directly, empowering youth, and supporting families, the initiative is helping build more inclusive, educated, and resilient communities.
