Youth-Led Climate Action Survey
Empowering Young People Across Pakistan to Understand and Act on Climate Change
The Youth-Led Climate Action Survey, funded by the IFRC Climate Centre, was a youth-focused initiative designed to understand young people’s perspectives on climate change while strengthening awareness and engagement around climate action across Pakistan.
Completed in November 2023, the initiative engaged 400 young people from different parts of Pakistan, creating an opportunity for youth to share their experiences, concerns, and understanding of climate change and its impacts on their communities.
Reaching Youth Across Pakistan
Climate change affects communities differently across Pakistan—from floods and landslides in mountainous regions to heatwaves, water scarcity, droughts, and other environmental challenges. The survey sought to bring young voices into the conversation and understand how climate change is perceived and experienced by the country’s youth.
Through youth engagement and awareness activities, participants gained greater understanding of:
- Climate change and its causes
- Local impacts of climate change
- Climate-related risks and vulnerabilities
- The importance of community preparedness
- Youth’s role in climate action
- Sustainable environmental practices
- Opportunities for young people to contribute to climate solutions
Engaging 400 Young People
A key achievement of the initiative was the engagement of 400 youth from across Pakistan. Their participation helped bring diverse youth perspectives into discussions around climate change and environmental challenges.
The initiative recognized that young people are not only among those affected by climate change but are also important actors in developing solutions. By creating space for youth participation, the project encouraged young people to become more informed, engaged, and prepared to contribute to climate action in their communities.
From Awareness to Action
The project went beyond simply collecting information. It contributed to increasing climate change awareness among young people and encouraged participants to think about how they could play a practical role in addressing environmental challenges.
Youth engagement is particularly important in Pakistan, where communities are increasingly experiencing climate-related risks. Building awareness among young people can help strengthen community resilience, encourage responsible environmental behavior, and create a generation of informed climate leaders.
Building a Youth Climate Movement
The Youth-Led Climate Action Survey demonstrated the importance of listening to young people and involving them meaningfully in climate-related initiatives. The engagement of 400 youth created a broader platform for understanding youth perspectives and encouraging young people to participate in climate action.
The initiative also reinforced YANG’s commitment to youth-led climate action, ensuring that young people are recognized as partners, advocates, and changemakers in building a more climate-resilient Pakistan.
